Taking down the Christmas decorations can be very sad on the spirits. Not only does it signal that a new year has begun, but it also means that you’ll have to wait another year before you can take them out and celebrate the nation’s most popular holiday again. Some families make taking down the Christmas decorations as much of a tradition as putting them up in November and December.
While most people were brooding over having to take down their gorgeous decorations, one woman was plotting a way to profit off of other people’s sorrow. One woman went to Costco to see if she could get a refund on her Christmas tree.
Days into January 2018, a money-hungry woman decided to go to Costco with her tree and ask the wholesale retailer to give her money back for the tree.
This tree was not a fake tree here. It was a Christmas tree that had been cut down – and hers was on its way out. It was dying.
The incident was captured in a photo and uploaded to a social media website.
It was branded with the headline, “I guess Costco will let you return anything and everything…”
The post went on to describe the incident, which occurred in Santa Clarita, California, as follows:
“Woman in line at Costco, totally nonchalant to return her Christmas Tree “because it is dead” on January 4th. I saw the whole thing go down with my own two eyes about 30 minutes ago. If I didn’t see it, I wouldn’t believe that someone had so little moral values or lack of conscience.”
Was the woman with the tree trying to push Costco to its limits or did she really think it was okay for her to return a Christmas tree?
The conversation started when the image was circulated on Facebook. But when it started to get viral and garner a lot of attention, the person pulled it down. But the image, and the words I shared with you above were forever preserved in a screenshot that was uploaded to Imgur by user JRD761.
So what happened to this woman? Did she get her money back or did Costco laugh her out of the building?
You will be surprised to learn that Costco refunded her for her dead Christmas tree.
The man who took the initial photo shared an update on Bored Panda. He wrote:
“She did get a refund. Not happily though. It was questioned, verified purchase on her account and she was (shamed) to a small degree. But I don’t think it fazed her because she has no conscience. She didn’t seem to mind that I took a photo and said, ‘Are you serious?’”
Because the incident was so ridiculous, it has amassed numerous hilarious comments.
Many people tried to highlight the difference between being frugal, like Benjamin Franklin, and cheap, like Ebenezer Scrooge.
“There is frugal, there is cheap, and then there is this brazen lady,” one viewer wrote.
Have you ever returned something that you knew was pushing the limits?
